David Doyle, Founder and CEO
Well, with college it was interesting how I ended up selecting the program that I got into. In 1969 if you think about it programming was pretty much not even a common topic. It sounded very interesting to me and so as a result of some counseling I decided to get into computer programming still not quite understanding what is was about so I selected Ferris State College which at the time was one of the few if not the only school at the time that taught five languages, five programming languages. So I attended Ferris State and upon graduating with the five languages that I had learned over those four years, I went to work for the Department of Treasury in Lansing and I worked there for about 4 ½ years and was involved in the financial applications for the treasure department. So I had a lot of early experience dealing with financial applications and what made those applications work. I then left and went on to work for Compuware Corporation in Southfield Michigan as a programmer and once again was deployed to Ford Motor Company where I worked again in a financial environment. I wasn’t real happy with the idea of working for someone I guess for the rest of my life so I elected to start doing some programming work for a physician who was looking to have a laboratory reporting system developed, which I developed, and upon completion there became a need to develop a medical billing application, to be able to submit claims to the insurance companies so I went ahead and completed that and wrote the code for that and it was upon completion of that process that it looked to me like this might have some potential for selling it to other practices. So I started contacting other groups and to my pleasant surprise there was a lot of interest and that’s how basically CRT Medical got started in 1981 when we opened our doors, or 1980, excuse me. And from there the company evolved from being a provider of software and hardware to a services based company and we’ve grown from what essentially was two employees to over 120 today.
